Firing Information + Policies
We bisque fire to cone 06 and glaze fire to cone 5. Here's everything you need to know before submitting pieces for firing.
What's Included
-
Firing for class pieces is included in your course fee, subject to the limits in your course description
-
Bisque firing is included with all open studio day passes, punchcards, and memberships
-
Glaze firing is not included with open studio options
Pricing
Firing is priced by volume using the grid scale in the studio — as a general rule of thumb, a standard mug runs about $1. Studio glazes are included in this cost. You're welcome to use your own commercial glazes, but there's no discount for doing so.
For a full kiln load, please contact us for pricing.
Preparing Your Pieces
Pieces must have a dry, clean foot with name or maker's mark before being submitted for firing. If a base hasn't been cleaned or has been accidentally glazed, we'll hold the piece on the shelf until it's been fixed.
Outside Work
We do accept firing for pieces made outside the studio, but we require the labels for both the clay and glaze used. Bisque and glaze firings are separate and will each be charged accordingly.
A Few Important Notes
-
If glaze runs and damages the kiln or kiln shelves, you will be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement
-
We do not guarantee finished pieces and are not responsible for runs, cracks, bloating, or other faults. We're happy to refire pieces if desired at the standard rate
-
Pieces are fired as soon as we're able, but firing priority is set by the studio owner. Kiln maintenance, class schedules, piece volume, and other factors all affect turnaround time. We can't guarantee completion by a specific date or time, but we strive for a two-week turnaround.
